I need to kick this Debt in the behind.

June 17th, 2011 at 06:34 am

I really need to figure out a way to kick my debt payoff into gear. It just seems to be taking such a long time. My payoff says 35 months at this point.

I am planning on putting my income tax refund in March 2012 towards debt, which should be around $1200/$1500, which will help a lot. I think if I can get that Discover card out of the way, the snowball would really be rolling.

I was earmarking all of my summer job income to pay cash for a vehicle for myself sometime in the fall. But, if it is still working out with my daughter and using her car, maybe I will put some of that money on my debt. I will have to revisit this idea in September. Maybe I can find a really good used vehicle and pay down some debt, all at the same time.

I also think I should absolutely go through every bit of my house, just to see if I can come up with enough items for a yard sale. A fall yard sale would be nice. Even if I didn't use it for debt, I could put the money from the sale towards Christmas.

Well, any positive ideas are always appreciated.

Decluttering to find items for sale sounds like a great idea!

I say stick to your plan for saving for a car. Look for a car in September for the amount you have saved. If nothing good in that price range, keep sharing and looking, until one comes around with the cash you have saved this summer.

Three years does seem like a long time, but one day it will seem like a small price to pay for getting on solid ground.

Are there side jobs you can do for extra cash?

I think you are doing well to have it calculated out, and I know that 35 months seems like forever, but the fact is that it will lead right by very quickly! Especially once you get really rolling and have the insurance of knocking out a few debts, and can really make speedy headway. It is also wise to look for additional ideas, as you are, but don't let the time frame keep you from the progress that you can make right now!
